EMERGENCY FIRST AID

INTRODUCTION

This course equips employees with the Basic Life saving skills and knowledge to treat persons who are injured, or become ill, at work. While this is not an Occupational First Aid course it is ideal for persons who have been appointed Designated person as required by the 1993 General Application Regulations.

PARTICIPANT PROFILE

New and existing employees. Managers and supervisors are encouraged to attend. A previous knowledge of First aid is not required.

AIM

OBJECTIVES

The participant will be able to:

  • Summon help and activate the Emergency Services.
  • Provide Basic Life Support for non-breathing and pulseless adult casualties (C.P.R.).
  • Assist both the conscious and unconscious choking casualty.
  • Treat for shock.
  • Use various casualty management positions to assist conditions such as:
    • Heart attack
    • Angina
    • Unconsciousness
    • Shock
    • Asthma
    • Bleeding
  • Provide appropriate treatment for bleeding.
  • Manage burns.

DURATION: Eight hours

NOTE: This course is not intended as a substitute for the Occupational First Aid course but will equip employees with vital lifesaving skills until the arrival of the Emergency Services.
